Devendra Fadnavis says he will not resign as Deputy Chief Minister: He will fight back.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that he will continue in his post despite initially being offered to resign following the BJP’s poor performance in the last general elections.
BJP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Saturday that he will continue in his post, days after he offered to resign following the party’s polls in the state.
The number of BJP Lok Sabha MPs in Maharashtra fell from 23 to 9 in the last general election. While its ally Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde won 7 of the 15 contested seats, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP won one of the four seats out of a total of 48 seats.
Fadnavis’ comments came after BJP MLAs passed a resolution expressing confidence in him and urging him to continue as deputy chief minister.
“I am not somebody who runs absent. I battle back. When cornered on all sides, ready to rise once more with force…this is what we learn from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” Fadnavis said, including that his offer to stopped was not an enthusiastic reaction to the constituent mishap.
The BJP pioneer included that he met senior party pioneer Amit Shah in Delhi and was inquired to proceed.
“I will do that. We have a procedure. I have as of now begun work for the get together decisions, which are due this year,” Fadnavis said.
Commenting on the reason for the saffron party’s destitute execution, he affirmed that a “fake narrative” was spread amid the survey that the BJP was arranging to alter the Structure, and said it harmed the NDA union. Fadnavis called the “rumour” another resistance party they had to battle.
“False story was the fourth (opposition) party after the tripartite Maha Vikas Aghadi. We noticed it after the fourth phase,” Fadnavis pointed out.
He added: “False stories have a long life. PM Modi decided to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, but the story went viral.”
At the same time, he pointed out that the BJP’s vote share did not decrease compared to 2019, and the party lost less than five percent of the vote in 11 districts.
Fadnavis, who had earlier said there were coordination issues with NCP Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, asked allies and party representatives to be careful while speaking.
State assembly elections are less than six months away.
