Supreme Court Bar Association President: Kapil Sibal topples Pradeep Rai:
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal has won the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) presidential election. Kapil Sibal got 1066 votes defeating his nearest rival and senior activist Pradeep Rai.
According to Bar and Bench reports, Pradeep Kumar Rai got 689 votes.
This is the fourth time that Kapil Sibal has served as SCBA president. Sibal announced his candidacy for president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on May 8.
The other contenders were Priya Hingorani, Tripurari Beam, Neeraj Srivastava.
Adish Aggarwala (Senior Advocate) is the current president of the affiliation, Pradeep Rai(Senior Advocate) is the Vice-president and Rohit Pandey(Advocate) is the Privileged Secretary.
A Harvard Law School graduate, Sibal was the extra specialist common of India amid 1989-90. He was assigned as senior advocate in 1983.
Kapil Sibal was already chosen as the SCBA President three times, the final occasion twenty-three a long time back in 2001. Some time recently that, he was President amid the 1995-96 and 1997-98 terms.
SCBA honorary secretary Rohit Pandey said the veteran lawyer is running for the post of president.
Senior Advocate Adish Aggarwala is currently the President of SCBA.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered that some SCBA executive committee seats should be reserved for women members.
Justices Surya Kant and K V Vishwanathan said that they believe that SCBA is a premier institution and an integral part of the highest judicial forum in the country.
It had coordinated that there should be reservation for ladies individuals of the Bar.
The seat had said within the up and coming 2024-2025 SCBA surveys, the post of treasurer of the official committee be saved for ladies.
The SCBA races will be held on May 16 and votes will be numbered on May 18. The comes about will be pronounced on May 19.
