How did celebrating Mother’s Day begin?
Celebrating Mother’s Day was started in America. An American woman named Anna Jarvis loved her mother very much. He himself did not marry to take care of his mother. But when her mother died, Anna missed her mother very much.
Anna often thought that how much a mother does for her children throughout her life, but her sacrifice and dedication are not even appreciated. In such a situation, there should be such a day when children can thank their mother for her selfless love, sacrifice and dedication. Anna’s mother died in May, so Anna started celebrating her mother’s death anniversary as Mother’s Day.
Why is Mother’s Day celebrated on the second Sunday of May?
After her mother’s death, Anna devoted her entire life to serving others. During the Second World War, Anna also served the injured American soldiers like a mother.
To honor her spirit of service, the then US President Woodrow Wilson passed a law in Anna’s honor and directly gave approval to celebrate Mother’s Day. By passing a law in the US Parliament, this day was announced to be celebrated on the second Sunday of May and then the first Mother’s Day was formally celebrated. Since then this day is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May.
